Building wells, saving lives.

Posted: January 4, 2012 in Uncategorized

Recently some students from our high school youth ministry went to Guatemala for a missions trip. While there they learned of the extreme poverty many of the people are living in. One particular need the students learned of was the need for clean water. Hunter Smith, one of our students, came home burdened by this need and decided to raise enough money to build a well in Guatemala. He has been working very hard to raise the funds and would love any help you can offer. We are very proud of all of our students and support Hunter as he works hard to accomplish what God has set before him!

Last week our student ministries had the opportunity to partner up with a local high school and throw an FCA sponsered Christmas party. We had games, food, music, raffle, and our intern Robbie had the opportunity to share the gospel message. In the end we had over 50 students show up for the party and 5 get saved!! We were also able to offer free bibles and invite them out to our church!

What a great way to end the semester!

Christmas is all about giving to others. Giving doesn’t always require money. In fact the best gifts are ones that involve time, effort, thought, and love.

Here are some ideas to help you  be a giver this Christmas season.

Send out Christmas cards to your neighbors.

Bake someone Christmas cookies.

Serve lunch or dinner at the Salvation Army.

Rake leaves/ shovel driveways.. for free!

Pack Christmas for an Orphan boxes.

Find a person or family in need and give what you can. Chances are you have a lot more than you think!

Send gifts overseas to soldiers who won’t be home for Christmas.

Invite someone to church on Christmas day. (Thomas Road Baptist church will have services on Christmas)

Donate some of your old coats to a homeless shelter

Feel free to add your own ideas!

Today Jeremy and I got to be chaperones for a middle school field trip where the chorus class got to sing to some elderly people.

We don’t want to just talk about serving the community.. we want to live it!

Recently a local middle school contacted me and asked if we could donate 250-300 cupcakes for students going on a field trip. We thought it would be a great opportunity for our middle school girls to give back by baking and decorating the cupcakes themselves. When I arrived this morning to deliver them the office staff was thrilled! What a great blessing it is to be able to partner with schools around our area! I’m so thankful for opportunities like that and all the hard working leaders and students that made it happen!

What are you doing to reach out to your local schools?

Even cupcakes can show the love of Christ!

As I was driving to work this morning I saw this and decided to take a picture. Don’t you find it ironic that this car whose license plate reads “have faith” is being hauled away by a tow truck?

Do you ever feel that way??

Hebrews 11:32-34 ”And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.”

I read this passage and think wow, now that is faith!

If someone saw my life they would not think wow… they would probably think lame! Can anyone else relate to that?

It would read more like Jordan went to church, tithed, attended church events, occasionally waved to his neighbors, was nice to the girl at starbucks, and read his bible.

Thats not faith. That’s not even Christianity.

I am challenging myself along with anyone else to live a life that is risky. One that depends on God. One that hopes for the best even when the worst seems to be just around the corner. One that shuts the mouth of lions and routes armies!

That is how I want to share my faith… by living it!!!

This past Wednesday, November 9th, we had an outreach event called Fall Blast. We had inflatables, prizes, basketball, corn hole tournaments, and the gospel was given by Acton Bowen (ActonBowen.com). The Woodmen of the World along with the National Guard teamed up by provided prizes and entertainment for the kids. It was a great night. We saw 400 or more students on a night where we normally see less than 300. Out of those we had about 72 visitors! We could not have been more pleased with the turn out and the response. We hope to do this again soon with expectations that God will amaze us like he did here!

Halloween is a great time for churches to reach out to their community. Every year our church has a kids carnival where children and parents come to get candy, participate in games, inflatables, and eat!  This year we had over 5,000 people attend, many who may have never been to our church before! What a great way to serve others and show love! That is what the church should be all about!

Our middle school and high school students managed the outdoor “trunk and treat” section where students, leaders, and cars were decorated in various themes. Here are pictures!

You know, something just hit me that upset me. I was driving back from taking my brother to school and saw some Mormons walking away from someones house. You ask why did this upset me? It upsets me because Mormons are very passionate about sharing their unreal gospel but yet Christians are hardly ever seen out sharing their faith, the only way to Heaven. What’s wrong with this picture? Why as Christians do we not share the great news of Christ with others? (I too am included in this) As Christians we need to share the truth with everyone. Our butt’s are being handed to us by the Mormons and Jehovahs Witnesses. What are you going to do about it?
