As I was driving to work this morning I saw this and decided to take a picture. Don’t you find it ironic that this car whose license plate reads “have faith” is being hauled away by a tow truck?

Do you ever feel that way??

Hebrews 11:32-34 ”And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson and Jephthah, about David and Samuel and the prophets, 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies.”

I read this passage and think wow, now that is faith!

If someone saw my life they would not think wow… they would probably think lame! Can anyone else relate to that?

It would read more like Jordan went to church, tithed, attended church events, occasionally waved to his neighbors, was nice to the girl at starbucks, and read his bible.

Thats not faith. That’s not even Christianity.

I am challenging myself along with anyone else to live a life that is risky. One that depends on God. One that hopes for the best even when the worst seems to be just around the corner. One that shuts the mouth of lions and routes armies!

That is how I want to share my faith… by living it!!!

This past Wednesday, November 9th, we had an outreach event called Fall Blast. We had inflatables, prizes, basketball, corn hole tournaments, and the gospel was given by Acton Bowen (ActonBowen.com). The Woodmen of the World along with the National Guard teamed up by provided prizes and entertainment for the kids. It was a great night. We saw 400 or more students on a night where we normally see less than 300. Out of those we had about 72 visitors! We could not have been more pleased with the turn out and the response. We hope to do this again soon with expectations that God will amaze us like he did here!

Halloween is a great time for churches to reach out to their community. Every year our church has a kids carnival where children and parents come to get candy, participate in games, inflatables, and eat!  This year we had over 5,000 people attend, many who may have never been to our church before! What a great way to serve others and show love! That is what the church should be all about!

Our middle school and high school students managed the outdoor “trunk and treat” section where students, leaders, and cars were decorated in various themes. Here are pictures!

You know, something just hit me that upset me. I was driving back from taking my brother to school and saw some Mormons walking away from someones house. You ask why did this upset me? It upsets me because Mormons are very passionate about sharing their unreal gospel but yet Christians are hardly ever seen out sharing their faith, the only way to Heaven. What’s wrong with this picture? Why as Christians do we not share the great news of Christ with others? (I too am included in this) As Christians we need to share the truth with everyone. Our butt’s are being handed to us by the Mormons and Jehovahs Witnesses. What are you going to do about it?

A tool and an encouragement for those serving Christ in Campus Outreach.

Doing anything in this world with the title “CHRISTIAN” on your forehead is tough and that will never change, as we see in Scripture. But, on the other hand, the God that you serve, is much bigger than any advisory or roadblock you will face in your ministry. Think about how many times God did the impossible in the Old Testament. There are so many stories and testimonies that account for His power and sovereignty over this world. As long as you have faith, God will be faithful through you. Listen to me carefully.

Never take down the “CHRISTIAN” sign, just move it.

It’s going to be hard for you to make an impact on the Campus your trying to reach if you come bursting through the door yelling, “I’m a Christian! I’m a Christian!” Most likely, you’d be arrested for disturbing the peace. But here is where we have to be careful. Instead of taking the sign down all together, I challenge you to move it. Yep! Keep the sign up, but move it.

What in the world do I mean by that?

Remember those times when you were young and your first dog, the best dog ever ran away? In most cases, what did you and your parents do? You put up “Lost Dog” signs around the areas where the dog most likely ran away to, correct? Now would it have been necessary to put up signs on every street corner in the city? No.  Because chances are your dog didn’t go that far and your neighborhood was the only area you were focused on. But if someone around town asked about your dog, you would say, “Yeah he ran away, if you see him let me know”. The same is true with your outreach to that particular school.  Your focus, your ministry, is connecting with the students and leading them to Christ. That is God’s mission for you. You only need to make the sign visible to them. They are your neighborhood. Creating relationships with staff, teachers and coaches is important because you have to gain trust, but letting them see the Christian sign too soon and at the wrong time, might hurt you in the long run. Am I saying you lie? No! If they ask you if you’re a Christian, tell them the truth. Tell them who you are and what your about.

Here’s the big question, where do I move the sign?

You don’t want to scare of the students either. I have learned that this part will come as your ministry grows and as you progress through it. Your Christian sign should be found in your actions, in the way you live when you’re around the students. In the things you say and the way you act as your creating relationships with them.  In the conversations you have. In the times you spend with them apart from school. Again, don’t run around screaming the Gospel. Be strategic. Jesus was. Peter was. Paul was.  Students want to be with someone who they see as socially cool, but once your gain their trust, they open up like a book.

Am I saying you hide your faith? Nope! Just be strategic in the way you present it. I challenge you to press on in your ministry and let God show His power through the Holy Spirit in you. Middle and High School students are at the most vulnerable age and you’re in control of what shapes their beliefs when you’re with them.

Ghandi once said, “I like your Christ. I don’t like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ.”

I also had a former student tell me that just last night….

He proceeded to tell me that he couldn’t believe how many hypocrite Christians he had encountered over the last few years. Instead of receiving love, mercy, and grace, he was bombarded with judgment, criticism, and intolerance.

It totally turned him off to anything concerning Christianity. He has turned his back and looked elsewhere for acceptance.

Drugs, alcohol, sex, rebellion.

Why are Christians such stumbling blocks? The only thing that should be offensive is the cross! (1 Corinthians 1:18).

Next time you consider judging someone or scolding them for something ask yourself if showing love would make more of a difference.

It did for Jesus.

“Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I have become sounding brass or a clanging cymbal.”

- 1 Corinthians 13:1

Love covers a multitude of sins. Love wins every time.
